I didn’t forget, but I didn’t want to bring it up.
For 20 years I lived in “LEE” county, Florida.
Yeah, THAT Lee.
The county seat is Fort Myers and I graduated from Fort Myers High in 1972.
In downtown Fort Myers there is an old bank that is 3-4-5 stories tall and on the side of it is a HUGE tile mosaic of Lee sitting on Traveler. In light of recent happenings that mosaic may no longer exist. I haven’t been back there for almost 19 years so I don’t know.
Do you ever wonder what Life in these United States might be like if the criminal tyrants had not won?
BTW, anybody going to watch the Inauguration today?
I will not, at least not necessarily intentionally.
Today is a work day, like most days around here, and I’m trying to finish a project I have been working on for far too long due to….life.
I’m not sure when the “I” will happen, I suppose around noon?
If it crosses my mind I will turn the toob on and see what’s happening.
Frankly, I’m mostly indifferent in all this political stuff. Yes, I have my preferences in how I wish things would be on a national level, but I also believe that down here at ground zero none of us has much if any say about it. It is what it is.
My main daily concern is being able live my life as I see fit with as little intrusion by others, gov’t and otherwise. Life seems to be a series of goals with the inherent obstacles and some intermittent flat places in between and the criminals inside the beltway have little influence over it – er, I try to minimize it.
One of my DH’s best friends from the Navy was a man from MS. We had the chance to visit Jackson MS while he was still alive. He and his wife were college educated, she was a nurse. He was high–very high level telephone company management. Very honorable and good people–Episcopalians to the core. Determined to make things better for the black community.
They took us on a tour down the historic trail of civil war mansions and work sites. Provided us with professional tour guides at each site. At the end of the day we arrived at one of the old ports on the river. I knew then–I had the facts for the first time. I had never quite accepted the civil war story we were taught–one side being all good and the other side being all bad. I believe young people have an instinct for honesty. No one would ever admit to me that maybe New Yorkers weren’t so innocent! My o’ my what a surprise! My keen appreciation of geography instantly came into play when standing where river meets ocean. It became very clear to me that as always geography is the key element to be considered.
Thanks Ghost!

Stunning portrait. Do you know where this is hanging?
The Pardons… as predicted. It would be amazing to see justice served, however, government never punishes itself. Recall that 8 years ago Trump requested a standing ovation for Bill & Hillary Clinton at his inaugural brunch and nobody was clapping harder than Trump. He said, “These are wonderful people.” The pardons were typed-up months ago and only revealed to be signed around 7 am EST. Joe doesn’t get up that early so who signed them? It’s none of your business. https://www.kunstler.com/p/another-door-opens

Never Yet Melted has a nice and detailed tribute to Gen. Lee.

Booth’s biggest mistake was he was too late.
And, lest we forget there was Traveller.

No, I don’t. Stole it off the internet.
