It’s pretty common to have to provide a real email address nowadays. I don’t object to it.

On rare occasion I go anonymous, when I discuss topics I’d rather not have my name attached to. If I have to always provide a valid email address because the web-site administration engine does an email lookup, well then I won’t discuss those sensitive topics.

I should look that up. How does the admin engine do an email address validity check without actually sending an email? The email protocols are 40 years old now, I should know this.

Just like there’s a /dev/null on a computer which is always a valid file handle, somebody on the internet ought to register nobody@nowhere.org so that’s always a valid email address.
