I sit on the river committee for a very famous Montana river. I have written here about snowpack. Typically we would have been able to see snowpack on the mountain peaks for the entire summer. Last summer that view was gone by mid June. I flew home from vacation three days ago and coming in over the mountains I could see brown dirt on about 1/3 of the mountains. Those areas that had some snow were very lightly covered. In short we are in such a drought situation that our snowpack has not bee so low since 1939. We are expecting very serious decline in the river this coming summer. Your picture reminds me of the wonderful peace and quiet that the river provides to so many.

Of course, I must also mention that we now have about 8 times as many people trying to recreate in the river. So many people have recently moved into Missoula and they are all expecting to be free to play in the river. Many of those “newcomers” come to MONTANA to teach us locals a lesson! I have a piece of info–us locals are not all like the Dutton clan!

When a local hydrologist took samples from the river two years ago, some of those samples had human urine. Being just a few miles from a university seems to provide additional considerations that many rivers do not have to deal with–kinda like Florida for Easter week! We cannot deny any human group from using the river, but we can outlaw certain types of equipment. I am planning to propose that we outlaw inner tubes. Inner tubes are the water vehicle of choice by the university crowd as they are the cheapest to rent, thus allowing more students than there would be if they had to rent kayaks, or canoes, etc. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a very happy student in an inner tube with a couple of bottles of beer tied to the side. I will let your basic understanding of human anatomy finish the story for you! I haven’t even gotten to the situation of their illegal parking alongside the highway!

2025 will be a very interesting year for me as we confront the drought and other problems. Say a little prayer for me!

Psalm 147 KJ V

7Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
9He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

You’re tired of commenting on the news? It IS tiresome when 98% of news is politicians. The other 2% might be music, the arts, weather… if not politically infected. I like reading James Kunstler every Monday and Friday. He’s got a farewell to Joe, as evil and demented a politician as there’s ever been. https://www.kunstler.com/p/joe-biden-an-assessment

You could always ask a question to spark viewer participation.

“If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?”
My answer would be this:

I’m mesmerized by that one.

The dood wrote the song then invented the instrument to play it.

I don’t know if that’s ever been done before.

To me it sounds like it could be a soundtrack to a movie.

Never seen anything quite like that. I know Vrai’s a heavy metal hard rock great but that was amazing. Being more inclined to classical music, here’s Bach, maybe the first heavy metal guy ever.

Trying to think of something insightful, witty, funny, clever, original, etc. everyday is a tall order. Photos are a great way to provoke thoughts and comments.
I think I mentioned before that the original America Digest occasionally featured something called “Something Wonderful “. Sometimes these were things people sent to GVL for his consideration as “wonderful”. Many times they were things he found and offered up… speeches, videos, paintings, stories and the like.
In that vein, reading about the death of Sam Moore on the Sippican Cottage blog, I found this:

“Back in the day, arguing about Ginger or Mary Ann was a thing. Jeannie vs. Samantha. Chevy vs. Ford was a hardy perennial, of course. Fender vs. Gibson was another one. But the real action was Motown vs. Stax records. Motown was the Detroit thang, of course. Stax was Memphis.”

And so here, hoping this link works as im not much good at this, is some wonderful dancing to Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs to alter your state of mind:

Great music. Love the white boots of The Temptations. They draw your attention to their feet and great dance moves. Also what struck me was how happy and smiley they are. Not like the cussing, angry rappers decorating today’s music charts. We were lucky to growing up when we did.

I wrote this little piece about my experience yesterday. With the idea that this is a place to try to write good things, you are the first bunch to read it–looking for your suggestions and thoughts.

I saw tomorrow yesterday
Actually, almost all of our tomorrows.

Standing inside with the cart full of groceries
I waited for him as he walked down the wrong row of cars searching for ours—away from me.

The gray skies had opened up sending a golden shaft of light down
on him—as he walked away from me.

My beloved is eighty two in a month from now—
The smartest man I have ever known seemed confused.

I still need to know how to make edits on this site.
The line should read:

The gray skies had opened up
sending a golden shaft of light down on him
as he walked away from me.
