Apples

I tend to like McIntoshes myself; good for eating off the tree, apple pies, and cider … especially cider.
Harvest season’s over by now though. One of the things I miss about Michigan is the cider mills.

Honey Crisp
I use McIntoshes in my Thanksgiving stuffing.
No crabapples on my tree this year. My neighbor has some though. Maybe time to make crabapple wine again. I can probably pick a gallon worth in about 10 minutes. Last year it turned out nearly undrinkable. This year, different yeast and maybe a bit more sugar. Hmmmm…
I eventually add apples to sweet potatoes that I coin about a half inch thick. Steam them in lemon juice and pineapple juice until they start to get tender. Throw in a cut up Granny Smith and add some brown sugar, vanilla and cinammon. Timing is important to avoid getting the sweet potatoes too soft. Asthetics!
I highly recommend looking up the history of Johnny Appleseed. Interesting fellow.
