Two Tunes For Tuesday – Beau Brummels
A sample of some obscure – and some maybe not obscure – tunes from my strange and off-the-wall collection.
Today’s selection: Beau Brummels “Laugh, Laugh” & “Just A Little” 1964 & 1965
“Laugh, Laugh” was the first “hit single” of the 1960s to come out of San Francisco in response to the onslaught of the British Invasion.
An early “psychedelic era” San Francisco band, their early work was produced by Sly Stone – before he became Sly Stone. Laugh, Laugh was released in late 1964 and achieved it’s highest level in February 1965. One of the promotion events for Laugh, Laugh was an appearance on The Flintstones as the Beau Brummelstones. Just A Little was the follow-up hit, released in April 1965 and hit its highest ranking in June 1965, becoming the Beau Brummels’ highest rated tune.
Although the band released other compositions, none achieved the status of these two songs. The band underwent personnel changes in 1965 due to medical conditions and military induction; the band finally fell apart in 1969.
Remember both very well. 1964, I was just starting to become aware of the popular music world. Through the power of radio I had graduated beyond the toonz my parents played.

These Flintstones rockers look very much like that Saturday morning cartoon Beatles feature that was happening in the mid 60’s. The Flintstones was Hanna/Barbara but I read somewhere that the Beatles thing was produced by the Rocky & Bullwinkle studio. Coincidently I clicked onto this Beatles episode just yesterday where they perform “Tomorrow Never Knows” which is one of their trippiest tunes ever. It starts out at Stonehenge and goes down the rabbit hole to a Mayan/Inca jungle for the backdrop. Strange as can be. Lennon said he wanted the song to invoke a vision of a thousand Tibetan monks chanting in unison, nowhere near South America.

We have come a long way since then…Our enemies are laughing. Our vets are forgotten. Our hippies have turned into what they exactly wanted–amoralistic spineless stand for nothings.
The NFL is back at it. It’s 2025 and the league has gone woke on steroids, leaving many people scratching their heads and asking why. After all, the kneeling debacle kicked off by Colin Kaepernick was supposed to teach them a lesson. Fans were told, again and again, that ratings tanked so badly the NFL would never go down that road again.

But here we are. They didn’t just ignore that lesson, they doubled down. The NFL isn’t just dabbling in politics anymore, it’s drowning in it. And while they dress it up with generic platitudes, don’t be fooled. It’s 100 percent left-wing propaganda.

Anybody still watching NFL has little reason to live. I’ll include watching tv in that equation, too. Read a book. There’s plenty of them. I’ve got a tv but it’s hooked up to a dvd player and a handful of times in one year I’ll plug in a movie. Watching… and PAYING to watch tv got most of the population vaccinated. When you’re paying 2 or 3k a year for cable you don’t want to miss one exciting minute.
