Great story Jean!
Reminded me for some reason of a wonderful Gérard story about a monkey in a box.

Chivas is a blend, I believe. Some folks get uppedy about single malts. Dad liked Glenlivet. I prefer Bourbon, although the rules on making it have changed quite a bit. Used to be it had to be 75% corn, aged four years minimum in once used charred oak barrels, made in Kentucky and at least 80 proof. Now anybody can legally call their whiskey a Bourbon with much relaxed rules. You can spend a gob of money on Scotch, Bourbon, etc. If I have a bit of extra jingle in my pocket, and available, I like Weller or Wild Turkey’s Longbranch. On any given week, hard to beat Wild Turkey poured on crushed ice with a bit of lemon rubbed on the mouth of the glass.

Hot day? Hamm’s Tallboy. A wise man told me about that one.

heh. I am no connoisseur by any means. If it tastes good and grants a nice buzz, I am a happy drinker…even though that is a rare event.

For a second there I clicked into Japanese. “Sando” is how they usually say “sandwich”, unless they want to go all the way and say “sandowicchi”.
You can’t get root beer in Japan, as far as I know. It does not suit the Japanese tongue.

“…You can’t get root beer in Japan, as far as I know. It does not suit the Japanese tongue.”

But you know what you can get in Japan?

Kentucky Fried Chicken. They eat it at Christmas. But don’t think that you can just walk in and grab your bucket’o chicken on Christmas afternoon. No–you need to have reserved your bucket weeks earlier.

Some things just defy explanation.

I’m not above enjoying a little scotchy-scotch in the evening every now and then. Maybe every 4-to-6 weeks. My liquor shelf has more than I’ll ever drink….for a few years, I was often buying something that I found interesting as I passed through some Duty Free somewhere.

I recently finished a bottle of Glenmorangie Nectar D’Or, which I really liked, and therefore actually finished.

Others still on my shelf are….

A MacAllen. I think I bought it at Costco. An Irish “Copper Alley”. Whiskey with an “e”. Produced by a place called the Dublin Liberties, so that’s why I bought it.A single malt from western Australia called “Limeburners”.Several versions from Glenfiddich. There’s a 2 bottle sampler, a 12, a 15 and an 18. We toured the distillery when we visited Scotland right around our anniversary, and had the label of the 18 printed in honor of that.A Yamazuki and Hibiki sampler from Japan. Don’t really care for either. An Ablelorn 12.A small bottle of Bruichladdich. Bought it for the unusual name alone.A Balvienie 14. Somebody had a list and this was one of their favorites.A Bowmore. Bought it in Guam and that was a mistake. I had to declare it as I passed through Japan, which meant that I had to pay a duty on it to bring it into the country.A Glen Grant, which if I recall was very cheap. Not too bad though.A Glen Livit Captain’s Reserve. On that trip, I was a Captain on a Reserve trip, and I bought it only because the name matched my circumstance. Purple box….kinda pretty. My theory on scotch is that they come up with some back story or attach some unpronouncable name, and then create the whisky after that. The name on the label and the shape of the bottle are more important than the whisky itself.

This is all a great way to have you believe that I’m a big scotch-drinker, but that’s really not the case. The great majority of my very limited alcohol consumption is of the cheap house version of Bailey’s Irish Creme that I buy at Costco.

I have a bottle of Kilbeggan I’ve been working on, otherwise Four Roses is my favourite. They fit my budget and taste. Or a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3iVHxP8FQ. As I write I’m drinking Blue Ribbon beer and listening to Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys playing “Faded Love” on Youtube.
