Tomorrow
Anne presented this in the comments; I thought it worthy enough that her words should be shared with all rather than buried in a comment.
Anne – I hope that’s OK; I didn’t get your permission first.
I saw tomorrow yesterday
Actually, almost all of our tomorrows.
Standing inside with the cart full of groceries
I waited for him as he walked down the wrong row of cars searching for ours—away from me.
The gray skies had opened up
sending a golden shaft of light down on him
as he walked away from me.
My beloved is eighty two in a month from now—
The smartest man I have ever known seemed confused.
Thank you so much! There are still some slight corrections I might make, but poems are notorious for needing slight adjustments! Your encouragement means a lot!
Your poem is perfect as it is. Straight from your heart to the reader’s heart. You captured a moment in time and described it beautifully in very few words.
I hope it helps others to post a good little piece.
Your words are beautiful as written. First thoughts are best; “tweaking” takes something away – fine for engineering work but the emotion that was present when the words came to paper is lost.
Yes, I hope others can contribute as well.
Yes, I know you are right. Sound like my old Jesuit professor! Thank you for the lovely picture–it is a perfect choice.
Anne, I thought I posted a comment here to praise your poem but I guess it slipped through. Anyway, your poem is beautiful with much love shining through.
DT, how do we submit a piece to post here? Do you have rules or limitations?
Hi Jean. Your question got me thinking of “rules and limitations” and my response was too long for a comment and probably of interest to others … so a post will be generated. Meanwhile, the quick answer to “how” is send the article to dt@newamericanexpress.org
Thanks for the reply and info, DT. Much appreciated. I write mostly poetry and avoid politics. I look forward to contributing things you consider worthwhile.
🙂
I’d hope it’s not just me considering what’s worthwhile but some one has to push the Post button. I have no doubt any contributions you make will be in the “worthwhile” category.
