Overland Stage – Part 4 South Platte/Julesburg/Ft Sedgwick

The New American Digest Posted on January 28, 2025 by DTJanuary 30, 2025

Part 4 - South Platte/Julesburg/Fort Sedgwick is now live.

Beginning with this article, each of the stations are discussed east to west - at least as far as what information is available.

Starting at South Platte Station - at the present junction of I-76 and I-80 in western Nebraska, this page stops at Julesburg to ramble on about all four versions of Julesburg, Ft Sedgwick - the inspiration for the fort in Dances With Wolves, and the notorious Jack Slade, who gets a side page to himself and his legend.

Tunes For Tuesday – Tangerine Dream “Yellowstone Park”

The New American Digest Posted on January 28, 2025 by DTFebruary 4, 2025

A sample of some obscure – and some maybe not obscure – tunes from my strange and off-the-wall collection.

Today’s selection: Tangerine Dream - Yellowstone Park

One of my favorite groups - "band" doesn't seem right. Tangerine Dream - mostly Edgar Froese as composer - fits into what is probably called ... "spacey".
A German pioneer in electronic music, the group began in 1967. This selection is off the 14th album "Le Parc" released in 1985.
Mostly instrumental compositions - one likes them ... or one doesn't.

"So Long. See You All a Little Further Down the Road"

When my body won’t hold me anymore
And it finally lets me free
Where will I go?
Will the trade winds take me south through Georgia grain?
Or tropical rain?
Or snow from the heavens?
Will I join with the ocean blue?
Or run into a savior true?
And shake hands laughing
And walk through the night, straight to the light
Holding the love I’ve known in my life
And no hard feelings

I'll see what I can scavenge up that's short. Might have to settle for real life.

Nearly got caught fighting a prairie fire once as a volunteer fireman. It's nothing to fiddle around with, for sure,…

So sad, DT. Can't believe you were in that situation at one time and glad that time is over.

Those 2 sentences caused a synapse moment. Got my license in 1971. I may write sumfink.

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man,
play a song for me
I'm not sleepy
and there ain't no place I'm goin' to

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man,
play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning,
I'll come followin' you

Take me for a trip upon
your magic swirling ship
All my senses have been stripped
And my hands can't feel to grip
And my toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin'

I'm ready to go anywhere,
I'm ready for to fade
Unto my own parade
Cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it

Men who saw night coming down about them could somehow act as if they stood at the edge of dawn.
