Couple days ago I noticed our Daffodils are coming up, maybe 3″ tall. Kinda early. Supposed to have snow next week. Down in the 20’s this coming weekend.
We’re setting records here since the 1800s. No measurable snow yet. I had one day where the snow fell faster than it melted and it covered the ground … but was gone by evening. Even the peaks nearby are bare. Some lows in mid-20s; highs usually in the 50s. Doesn’t help the snowpack (summer water). On the other hand, “winter” isn’t over yet.
The most recent picture in my phone of flowers, taken on Christmas day. This is a Soft-Coated Cascalote tree
(Caesalpinia coriaria) which produces these yellow blooms most of the winter. This is both good news and bad. Good in that the tree is very pretty and that pleases the Lovely Mrs. azlib, and bad in that the tree is what I call “dirty”…..those blooms drop off the tree like crazy. A nearly weekly chore is to blow these fallen blooms into a pile and get them into the trash.
