Up High

The peaks are a few hundred feet above 14,000 ft. These goats enjoy the altitude at just above 14,000ft.
Mt Evans is the highest of the range at 14,266 … but Governor Evans was involved with Sand Creek so the mountain had to be renamed to Mt Blue Sky in 2023. The highest paved road in North America, the parking lot is just above 14,000 ft. About a 50 mile drive up from Idaho Springs (at 7500ft) – 35 miles from Denver is a direct line.
Denver may be the “Mile High City” but few realize it’s in the South Platte River valley.

2023. Grrrr. How long will it be before we are rid of all the various forms of insanity that we endured in that period?
That’s funny. Not 2 mins ago I asked my wife the same thing but about something different. (when will the insanity end)
as long as humans are involved, probably never.
Back from the PI. 30 hour adventure from Manila to home with six hour layover in Friso, red eye to Houston, more layover, then airport pick up in Wichita/ICT by my favorite daughter and Pikingese guard dog. Wife will lag behind from Asia by a few weeks. We had a great time in Cebu, Muntinlupa City, seeing family at a wedding. All good.
With a 14 hour flight, you can watch five full length movies then realize you have a couple hours yet to go. Sweet Jesus thank you that I can afford business class flights. If I could write as well as Ghost or Azlib maybe I could write a book on my travel experiences. No dice there.
As many good Gerard followers know, I lived and worked in the PI for most of two years back in early 2Ks. Everything is different there now, of course. Roads are better, none of my old hang out spots remain and outside of family, only one of my old friends still reside there. Me, him and our wives had dinner. Hadn’t seen the guy in three years but it felt like a two week separation only. We did not hit the way back machine much but talked about the future. Good.
Turns out I logged 38 hours of work on my two weeks off. Rust never sleeps. I will be in the home office for a week then back on the road the next four. Having fun with it and the grind does not go on forever. I plan to run through the finish line to retirement. On that day I do not want a party, a lunch, a card or anything else. I only want to walk out the door knowing I did my honorable best.
Welcome back snake.
You sed this:
“If I could write as well as Ghost or Azlib…”
It’s not a contest.
You may have noticed, I am not a writer but a thinker and a feeler that condenses those 2 things into my fingers. I think – I type. And I’m NOT a typer. Never had the patience to learn. But I do type pretty fast with 2 fingers. lol On my AutoCAD machine I do all my typing with my left hand only, and steer my mouse with my right.
The point is to get your ideas down on a tangible format, er, digital if you prefer. A running text file. Then keep adding to it. Going back and rereading it, editing it, adding to it, over and over. Think of it as a mini-hobby.
I have (2) 34″ monitors connected to 2 different machines and both desktops are littered with text files of stuff I am writing, maybe 100 files all together. Song lyrics, remembrances of oldt, etc., etc.
They say the more you do something the better you get.
BTW, as shown above, your writing is fine.
And, if you haven’t tried this stuff yet, you may be pleasantly surprised.
I was.
I hadn’t eaten anything in that category since I was a child.
As ghost said: “BTW, as shown above, your writing is fine.”
Ditto from me. Write away …
Thanks for your very kind remarks, but like Ghost, I plead humility. The New American Digest exists as a refusal to close the doors on a place where we could all enjoy the writings of one of the best writers I’ve ever encountered. My scriblings pale in comparison.
“My scriblings pale in comparison.”
So??? Are the rest of us doing any better?
Gerard’s gone. I put my shoe in the door. Sharing our scribbles with each other is the only way to keep the door open. My stuff alone won’t do it – I need help with content … my stuff certainly won’t keep y’all enthralled for long.
But – your choice.
(I hadn’t noticed ghost’s humility. Seems outspoken to me. Those good at what they do don’t need humility. But he’s quiet sometimes …).
By the way, Jean is the #1 contributor, ghost is #2 not far behind.
Your writing is totally “up to par”, Snake.Do more of it.
