Tunesday: Cowboy Junkies – Where Are You Tonight?
A sample of some obscure – and maybe not obscure – tunes from my strange and off-the-wall collection.
Today’s selection: Cowboy Junkies – “Where Are You Tonight?” 1990
Cowboy Junkies is a Canadian band formed in 1985. Still together with the same line-up. A 4-man band, three of the members are siblings. A 4th family member left the band early on. The 5th (now 4th) member of the band was a childhood friend from kindergarten. Their first album was released in 1986 but their 1989 release of The Trinity Session had a cover of Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane which peaked at #5 in the US. To date, they’ve released 18 albums.
This cut comes from their 3rd album, The Caution Horses.

Had kind of forgotten how much I liked them.
Thanks for this reminder. Their version of Sweet Sweet Jane is really good.
Sweet Jane was considered but I went with something less well-known. The band popped up for a while then slipped back into semi-obscurity
It’s a thousand wonders I saw this, because I despise Letterman, but years ago, they did a song on his show, I don’t remember which one, and afterward Letterman brought the lady singer over to his desk for a chat, lecherous bastid that he was/is. And he asks her a question about “The Cowboy Junkies” and she tuned him up right quick that it was Cowboy Junkies, not THE Cowboy Junkies, and he should get the name right at least, and shot him the same kinda look you’d give some vile substance stuck on the sole of your shoe that you stepped on down at the dog park. Which describes him pretty well, when you think about it. Anyway, the interview got cut pretty short after that less than glorious start.
The name of the band immediately drove my thoughts to the Leningrad Cowboys. Check out ‘Those Were the Days’ performance with the Red Army Choir and band. LENINGRAD COWBOYS | Finland | Official Website Bing Videos
