Beautiful. That compelled me to get some elk out of the freezer for tonight. Push some snow off the driveway and pull the grill out.

Regarding the pik above, a little sparse regarding trees and such.
But desolate regarding people, which pleases me.
A long view, with the possibility of observing wildlife.
And, a decent garden might be possible.

I immediately thought of sitting on the point of that elevated finger with my Ruger #1 in 7mmREMMAG. Using my Steiners to glass for mule deer, pronghorn or an elk.

Here’s the arsonist who was arrested for allegedly starting the Kenneth Fire, which has burned 800+ acres of Los Angeles

Are we about to find out these fires are being set by illegal migrant gangs with the intent of looting?

Hopefully the illegals will vote Democrat some day. That’s why they’re here. Mostly peaceful fires.

Doesn’t matter if that’s true, the truth will be suppressed. As the Brits suppress the news of rape gangs, and suppress punishment of the rape gangs, so TPTB will not act against either accidental or deliberate fires set by protected diversity agents.

As Raymond Chandler pointed out, the Santa Ana winds brings out the crazies. Years ago I talked with an LA County wildlands firefighter, where I specifically asked how come fires started during Santa Ana’s. He said fires start all the time. It’s just when the winds blow, the fires blow up. When the winds don’t blow, the FD’s knock them down right away and they don’t spread, so they aren’t newsworthy. Nevertheless, some of the fires that spark during the Santa Ana’s are sparked by firebugs who want to see the world burn.

There was a report today that 100 folks on scooters invaded the remains of Pacific Palisades, specifically for looting.

Thanks for deleting my previous comment, DT. Duly noted. Today’s James Kunstler blog mentions the arsonist, with blowtorch in hand, being arrested for starting the Kenneth fire.

I wrote something that never appeared. I went to the dark side and imagined you or somehow it got deleted. I’m over it. As for editing, is there a mechanism here that allows a 5 minute window? I don’t see anything to click that might enable an edit. Ah… that tiny Star of David in the bottom right corner is allowing me to write this line now!

James Woods has been extremely vocal about getting burnt to ashes. Today he posted this… https://gab.com/Calabrese_Pizza/posts/113803465780750065

Lo and behold James Woods’ house is still standing! But everywhere around him is toast. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/01/miracle-has-happened-james-woods-returns-find-home/

I might have told this story before. When I designed and built our Florida house it had a 28,000 gal (I think) swimming pool and a lawn sprinkler system.

During construction I had the pool contractor install an additional outlet from the pool pump with a valve. I then ran 2″ PVC pipes from that outlet through the attic to 2 high pressure sprinkler heads with 50′ radius close to the roof peak. It was wooded where we lived and in the event of a forest fire I would hit that valve and saturate the entire house and surrounding area.

We also had a well with a propane fired generator (Generac) that would be used to keep the entire yard saturated.

The cost of adding the pool pump outlet, PVC pipes and sprinkler heads, at the time, was only a few hundred dollars.

I imagine the damage to Wood’s home will be considerable. Smoke saturation, fire-heat damage.

Henry Winkler’s Theory Gains Ground
The sadness and anger caused by the Los Angeles wildfires have led its inhabitants to search for answers, as well as for the culprits to blame for the devastation.
Actor Henry Winkler, known for his role as “The Fonz” on the sitcom Happy Days, was eager to answer the question and sparked a viral conversation yesterday (January 8) when he shared his belief that the disaster was caused by an arsonist.
“There is an ARSONIST here in LA. May you be beaten unrecognizable!!! The pain you have caused!!!” the actor wrote on X, with the post going viral with more than 1.9 million views at the time of writing.
Winkler’s theory caused netizens to argue in the comment section, with one side supporting his idea and the other dismissing it as the “ramblings of an old man.” However, new video evidence shared earlier today could prove the actor right.
Actor Henry Winkler blamed the Los Angeles wildfires on arsonists, with later clips adding credence to his theoryhttps://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/qjZECLxjbpXR5FctAexkvA–/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyNDI7aD04Mjc-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/aol_bored_panda_979/4bb08c6ccda619258e528b7b0c96f273

“People are lighting fires in otherwise non-burning urban areas of LA,” the viral clip read, which surpassed Winkler’s tweet with more than 6.5 million views combined.
In the video, a number of people are seen throwing flammable items into a massive fire in Santa Monica, California, with passersby looking in disbelief as the flames increase in size, threatening to light a couple of tall trees in the area.
“Stay safe and call in any activity ASAP. We don’t need more flames out here,” a retweet wrote.

I’d like to see a herd of wild horses galloping across that landscape, or maybe see them just quietly grazing at the base of the plateau, imaging a river around the bend. Wherever it is, it looks kinda hot, brown and dry for comfortable human habitation.

There are wild horses living along the Salt River not far from me.
https://www.destinationwildlife.com/blog/wild-horses-on-public-land

It is a longish article with a number of nice photos. The short story is that having and managing these wild horses is a complicated issue.

Related: In western Arizona, they have wild burros. The people of Oatman, Arizona elected one of them to be their mayor. His name is Walter.

Thank you for the interesting link AZL.
I know the subject of wild horses and their management is complex and controversial, but how lucky you are to have these beautiful creatures so close to you.
As for Walter, the mayor, many towns and cities could do worse than Oatman with its burro. I’m guessing it’s better managed than many places we could name.

There’s a button, at the lower right corner under the comment. Looks like a round gear. Click and hold on it, and pop-down menu allows you to “Edit comment”. I successfully did it once.

I got the gear (bottom right) but it wasn’t active and only appeared for about 30 seconds.

testing … enter initial comment
now editing. I had to click the barely visible gear once to get an”Edit” item, then click it again to allow me to edit, then click the green Save button.
I’ll see if I can increase the button size
