Blink!

And there I lay, early O-dark-thirty, instantly teleported from some unknown world to this one.
My brain turned on … or at least changed channels … and I start thinking about the day ahead.
I have things to do, places to go, I got a good night’s sleep, I feel good.
It’s time to get up.
So I swing my legs around to get out of bed and sit up contemplating my next move.
Coming to the conclusion my mind was fooling me about the day ahead.
I’m ready for a nap.

All too familiar with “I’m ready for a nap”. Being retired I can honestly say that some of my best sleep is just beginning when in the old days I would be going off to work. What is the picture of? Vanilla pudding?
Ripples on water through a yellow-ish filter
I am at about 14 months, a week and a wakup before I retire, says my DEROS calendar.
Then, with my brain turned on, standing on my feet at the side of the bed, and my agenda for the day filling my thoughts, I turn and look at the clock.
It was at that moment that I realized that, no, it wasn’t time to get up. It is just before 2am and I have had barely half the sleep that I ought to have. I know that I’ll crawl back into bed and I’ll spend at least an hour with my thoughts alternating between that agenda waiting for me at a decent hour and me beating myself up for having ruined another opportunity for a full night’s sleep.
Never heard the expression “0 dark thirty” before, but its a great one!
Either way it is expressed, “O” as on “Oh”, or 0 as in “Zero”, 0 Dark Thirty was a very common idiom when I was in the military.
Zero Dark Thirty was a great movie.
“Coffee nap” is what we call it. DH and I get up at the rising hour 0700-0730. He builds a masterful cup of Peet’s coffee and I heat up a “sweet treat”. We indulge our luxuries while we light up the computers and read the newest record of human insanities. By 0815 one of us will say “boy, I need a coffee nap!”. We head to the couch and the recliner and nod off for an hour–the best sleep of our 24 hour day! I keep asking myself WTH is that? How can I be so sleepy so quickly after getting up? But, then I think the news of the day probably shocked my system into backing down for a few minutes!
