I saw this morning that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow* and that we will be enduring six more weeks of winter.

With all respect to those for whom winter conditions are a true burden, I kinda welcome six more weeks of my winter.

* This tradition is really stupid and, the Bill Murray movie aside, I don’t know why we continue with it. It borders on animal abuse.

P.S. That video I linked is less than 2 minutes, which is plenty for a story of this magnitude. Believe it or not, but if one wished to give it that much of your time, you could also find full coverage of the event, totalling nearly 2 hours. I have much better things to do.

I don’t much mind that there will be more weeks of winter. I am glad for the rain and snow that will refill the aquafers, soak the roots of the giant old oak trees and help the garden.

I do very much mind groundhogs. I enjoy most wildlife around the place and tolerate those I don’t enjoy, but groundhogs… Nope. Cute as they are, we are at war.

I can never forget my wife’s birthday–today. Sweet 79 and still the apple of my eye.

Excellent Joe!
My wife’s birthday is next week, the 15th and she’ll be 71 the same age as me. We’ve been married almost 42 years.

Next weekend hits me pretty hard in the ass pocket.

14th – Valentines Day
15th – Wife’s Birthday
18th – 42nd Anniversary
