Weather Report
Well – after about 4 days of heavy rain, a day of sunshine. It rained so much, so hard,. so fast that I-84 had to be closed down due to flood waters.
We don’t get rain like this … usually.
Not as heavy as hurricanes in Virginia but still.
There is more snow on the peaks I can see out my back door that we saw all winter .
The grass is growing so fast that by the time it dries out enough to cut, I’ll need to weed-whack it first or the mower will plug up.
Mrs DT finds gardening peaceful; she’ll sit out until dark pulling weeds as meditation.
She ought to be quite mellow here pretty soon.
I’m quite the opposite.
And that’s how my day’s going. With no complaints.
The grass won’t dry out soon; more rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow. And maybe Thursday.
I guess I have plans for the weekend.

DT, your weather report mirrors ours in Northern Michigan. The AuSable River is higher than any old timer up this way has ever seen and is not expected to crest til tomorrow sometime. My crick went from its normal height of around 26 inches and blew right through the river height gauge that marks to 100 inches. It was buried. And though our place sits on a rise, the crick got within 8 feet of the house, and that all happened in about 12 hours. Lots of Northern Michigan communities; Cheboygan, Alpena, Bellaire, etc.; have dam issues either topping the dam or leaking dams. Combination of 3 1/4 inches of rain in about 16 hours, and snowpack melt.
You mention enough places to bring back memories. For a while, I spent time in Oscoda – well, at one of the lakes north of town. I used to spend many a summer day canoeing on the AuSable (I still miss her). It’s where I learned to tie down the beer. Someplace around here, I have a photo of the lumberjack monument from somewhere along the river that I may scribble a bit about – if I can find the photo.
All-you-can-eat fried perch dinners someplace near the river mouth. Fresh wintergreen and low-bush blueberries growing wild inland. I think I posted a picture sometime back of sunrise over the lake that was taken somewhere from a beach north of Oscoda. Once upon a time, I gave thought to living in Cadillac.
There are parts of Michigan I do miss … from days and times very long ago. I’ve a wedding to go to later this summer so it looks like I’ll be back for a short while to what was once home. But that was then; my place is out here in the high desert and mountains – dry country.
I need to mow, kinda, but don’t feel like it.
Mostly tall places here and there, dead leaves everywhere, and lots of sticks. Maybe tomorrow….
