Growing up, my mom would take 3 of those 4 items; Spam, Velveeta, Miracle Whip; grind the Spam and Velveeta together in one of those hand grinders, mix in a good-sized dollop or two of Miracle Whip, and then spread that mixture onto halves of hamburger buns and then run them under the broiler til they were bubbly hot and serve that as a meal. Topped with a bit of stone ground mustard; Boetje’s brand was the go to; and serve pickles on the side as an accompaniment. Mom called them Spam and cheese. We loved them! I still whip this up from time to time with my brothers.

Just the title created spontaneous salivation. And it has been at least 60 years since my last such sandwich.

Does Spam ever go bad if left unopened?

Stored properly, who knows? We ate a can last week that was more than 4 years old and we ain’t dead. My understanding is eating a single slice of spam extends your life by 3 days and no one has proven it false yet.

FWIW, I usually buy the “Great Value” brand at Walmart cause it tastes identical or better and costs a little less.

I eat spam every which way I can, cold, hot or in between, don’t need a boot in my ass, nawt I mean?

Likes me some mayo but Miracle won’t do, though it’s getting kinda ‘spensive Krafts my go to.

Here’s the recipe:

mayo, bread, mayo, cheese, spam, cheese, mayo, bread, mayo…then into the hot pan. Yeah it’s a little messy but that mayo on the outside makes it brown up nice.

A little mound of bread and butter pickles on the side and a glass of sweet tay. DAWG!

Go chow on the porch and let the dripping run down my bare chest.

I had strawberries for break and skipped lunch but it’s almost 2pm so I’m gonna go pop open that box of Turkey Hill Orange Cream Swirl and dive right in. It’s in the high 80’s right now, perfect for some frozen dairy dessert!
