WTH did he get off out there in the first place? What was his plan to control the animal? Like I said before, I don’t chase horses! He had better start heading for home.

There’s a waterfall nearby he (and a few others) were looking at. The horses were picketed. When this guy tried to mount, the horse got skittish – maybe he didn’t care for the rider? From this angle, the rider looks to need a bigger horse.

The almost rider does still have hold of the reins though – and did finally get on. I just happened to get this shot as they were moving around.

I like the picture.

Trump won the daylights out of the weekend. I admire good leadership when I see it.

I would love paying less for Rx drugs. At first I thought: “Nixonian price controls?” But then I remembered that our prescriptions come from overseas.

I will admit that my first encounters with Buy American were tepid. I thought it was overblown Birch stuff. Now, everywhere I look I am confronted with how deep our manufacturing has been destroyed. Xhina needs to chill out. Bring the factories home.

I remember when I was 15, (1970) sitting cross legged on the floor at my cousin’s apartment, a waterpipe, bottle of wine, and A Saucer Full of Secrets.

Was that really 55 years ago?

He must be a rookie rider or a rough rider or done something the horse didn’t like. Horses always have their reasons. They’re not just skittish for the hell of it.

That cowboy attitude won’t get you very far with a smart horse!

I’m no cowboy, Anne, but I do know a thing or two about the equine race.
Some horses are smarter than others for sure and can be challenging. Some are more nervous than others. Most just require patience and kindness, quiet and consistency in their life, unless they’ve been completely ruined by incompetence or cruelty.
They are prey animals and the horse world, whether it’s cowboys, trailriding, racing, jumping or dressage comes with a lot of mistreatment – some because of ambition or greed, but a lot because of incompetence, laziness and a basic misunderstanding of horses and how being “prey” drives their behaviour.
I’ve been dumped and eaten dust more times than I can count in half a century of daily riding and it’s almost always been my fault.
Horses are just amazing animals.

When I say “Cowboy attitude” I hope everyone understands that I was not talking about real working cowboys. The ones I am talking about are the ones that come to MT and wanna play Yellowstone Cowboy! The ones I know work as a beautiful team with a horse. They understand them and work with them in a peaceful harmony.

Yup that guy in the photo flailing his arms and legs around is no horseman, cowboy or otherwise, from the looks of things.
Then again, photos are an instant in time and can be misleading. I’m thinking of those photos of border agents who were charged with whipping illegal immigrants while on horseback. And it was all nonsense.

Went on a trail ride in Mexico once. Gob of tourists with a gob of horses. Went up a mountain and ate lunch. Didn’t get the same horse on the way back. When I mounted that horse it took off like its ass was on fire. Tried to scrape me off on a tree. Grabbed the reigns and he then knew I knew how to ride, not that I am great. Rode back to the group and then back down the mountain with no more drama.
