Tipping
Story from Fox News
Some guy was on a date at an unspecified restaurant. He thought the service was less than it should be but left a 10% tip anyway:
The waitress allegedly “lost” his drink twice, brought him and his girlfriend the wrong appetizer and “vanished for what seemed like an eternity” when they wanted to order dessert. He paid and left a 10% cash tip, which he felt was “reasonable given the circumstances,” he said.
“We were just standing up to leave when [the waitress] came over, took the cash and said, ‘Seriously? This is it?'” he continued. “She had said it audibly. [apparently, the entire restaurant heard her comment]
“Then she added, ‘You know, servers can’t pay their rent because of people like you … If you can’t tip properly, don’t dine out.’“
He went back to the table, pocketed his cash tip and “left without another word.”
Some people thought he was wrong.
I don’t disagree with his action.
Waitress: You don’t work for me, I don’t sign your paycheck – you work for the restaurant. It is not my job to pay your salary; a tip is a gift, a reward/incentive for good (or exceptional) service. If you don’t make enough to pay your rent, talk to your employer, not your employer’s customers. Or find another job. If you don’t get tips, perhaps your customers aren’t satisfied with your service.
If you had acted like that towards me, not only would you have lost a tip, your employer would have lost a customer.

Something ain’t right here:
“…[the waitress] came over, took the cash…”
then
“He went back to the table, pocketed his cash tip…”
Both sentences can’t be right.
We don’t eat out much, maybe 2, 3 times a year, and almost always in the same place.
We’re easy customers, don’t order appetizers, desserts, special drinks (just water) and we don’t want our food customized (no pickles on the burger, etc.).
All the server has to do is bring us what we ordered in a timely manner then leave us alone to dine together. That’s all. We NEVER summons a server after we’ve been served. Like I said, we’re easy.
We always leave a CASH tip on the table for the server and it is meager, say $5, and I look at it as a “cover charge” for entry into the establishment. We also pay for the meals in cash too.
If I was to get all diagnostic about it I’d figure the servers “earnings” are none of my bidnit nor is how s/he spends/manages her/his money my bidnit. Therefore, I am under no obligation to pay MORE for our meals than the stated prices on the menu, plus applicable taxes.
If it was up to me, say I was King ghost and I ruled the whole world, I would say from this day forth there will be no tips, taxes, gratuity’s nor any other fancy words designating added on fees to the prices listed on the menu as that sort of thing is disingenuous, dishonest, and smacks of criminality.
(I also think it’s chickenshit of the restaurant owner to claim tips as part of the employees salary, when that is not what a tip is for. Frankly, if a server just does there job like they are supposed to there would be none of this tipping nonsense.)
This is one more instance of grown people NOT taking FULL responsibility for their entire lives. Where the server takes on a job that carries enough import to pay for their day to day expenses, yet not know til the job is over how much they will get paid. Who would do such a retarded thing?
“Hey Mr Ghost, I want you to design a big, beautiful bank building for me and I want the capacity to make as many changes and be a major pain in the ass as possible over a prolonged period of time and you won’t know how much I’m going to pay you until the job is done and I am 100% satisfied.”
In that event, it’s unlikely I’d hear the last half of that sentence as I have too much work in front of me to waste time with suckerasses.

Having been a server a few times early in my working life, I cannot imagine doing what she did and still having a job after that incident. Disgraceful.
That young lady has a long, hard road ahead in her life.
Notice, the silly little waif said, “If you can’t tip properly, don’t dine out.’“, and it never occurred to her if everybody did as she suggested, she’d not be able to pay her rent at all.

Picked up his tip. Heheh. Good for him. Can’t make ends meet? Get a second or third job. That is what I did when young, dumb, no marketable skills and broke. I worked ongoing, 65 hour weeks for a few years while eating peanut butter sandwiches, and developed character. I mowed yards with my kids for college funds the past five years. I backed off from that this year, but even when we were pushing 14 yards a week, there was always someone else wanting us to mow. I work full time plus the gun range, and I don’t need any more money, but it is there if you are willing to do it. I don’t mow weekly but when my son is on Army drill, I cover his weekend mowing by myself. We are down to four yards but I am 60 years old. I take a day of vacation from my real job and mow them all in a single day. Can’t hurt me: David Goggins.
