Transiting the Bosporus Strait in Istanbul.

A LPG tanker built in 2007 and registered in Hong Kong. 570 ft long, 92 ft beam, 34 ft draft
The Bosporus Strait (İstanbul Boğazı), connecting the Marmara Sea to the Black Sea, splits the city of Istanbul (pop ~17million). It lies on the continental divide between Asia and Europe. The strait is about 20 miles long and ranges between a bit less than ½ mile wide to 2 miles wide at the northern end. It has an average depth of about 200 ft extending to 360 ft in places. There is a submarine river through the strait – current can flow in either direction but the primary flow is south to the Marmara.
It is speculated – with some evidence – that at the end of the last ice age, the strait was formed by a deluge of water flowing north, breaking through into the then fresh-water Black Sea. This could be the foundation for Noah’s boat ride during the Great Flood of the Bible.

Nice place to visit but….
The image and title remind me of one of my favorite poems from school called “Cargoes” by
John Masefield:
QUINQUIREME of Nineveh from distant Ophir,
Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.
Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus,
Dipping through the Tropics by the palm-green shores,
With a cargo of diamonds,
Emeralds, amythysts,
Topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.
Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack,Butting through the Channel in the mad March days,
With a cargo of Tyne coal,
Road-rails, pig-lead,
Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.
A friend (recently deceased) was very big on eating hot chilies. He would tell you he could fill one of these tankers up in a couple of days. May he rest in peace.
“If you program a computer to solve the square root of two, it will keep working at the problem until it runs out of resources and crashes. The smartest computer in the world is not intelligent enough to recognize futility; that some problems cannot be solved and that the best thing to do is quit before you destroy yourself. Americans have been given a problem with no final solution; to repay the debt of a financial system that by design creates more debt than money. We can either keep working at that problem as commanded by our rulers until we run out of resources and crash, or we can exercise our intelligence, recognize the futility, and quit trying to complete a task which is by design impossible to complete.” — Michael Rivero
Sell off gov’t held assets to the highest bidder and use the returns to pay down the debt.
Fire 90% of ALL gov’t employees and pay zero benefits.
Cancel ALL taxes, fees, licenses, etc.
It’s going to end this way anyway, so get in front of it.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it ain’t over now.
Yep. Sell off assets, fire the socialist do-nothing werkers, Sell oil off Gubmint lands and repay the debt. Mandatory military service for young men. Balanced government budget or you go to the gallows. If someone is here illegally and proven so, that is enough due process. Deport. Fat, stupid, no job and on food stamps? Welcome to public works. We will find something for you to do that you will hate so much you will actually get a legitimate job. Food stamps now only buy unprocessed food. You want doughnuts, Pepsi and Lucky Charms? Tough shit. Buy it with money you earned. Any fat women wearing yoga pants in public get 30 days in the pokie on bread and water diet. Anybody wearing pajamas on an airline flight get public shamed. Any light beer and Merlot wine are outlawed. All the gumpy old flight attendants on American Airlines get replaced with the women from Singapore Airlines because they are smoking hot bombshells that actually smile and do not have a permanent case of the ass.
I tasted Merlot one time and had to check to make sure it wasn’t paint thinner. The rest of that bottle went down the drain.
Question: if a fishing vessel is doing military intelligence does that make it a ship? 🙂 This video tells an important story: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/science/every-single-dot-is-a-boat-nasa-astronaut-captures-chinas-expansive-fishing-fleet-from-space/articleshow/121132587.cms
I find that thing to be specious.
About boats (Ships?) Question: if a fishing vessel is somehow involved with military intelligence does that make it a ship? 🙂 Enjoy the video
