Sometimes.
Running of the sheep, the Waynoka snake hunt, ground hog day, any church ice cream social, and I suppose a bunch of other annual local small town events may not draw interest from the media. Meh, so what? Interesting enough to me.
Wife is still n the PI for another week and it was my turn to cook. Me and the kids have been taking turns. I cooked bacon for dinner last night. Maybe I will take the crew to a Mexican joint downtown this evening. Then again, they have friends and other stuff to do, so I might be at home solo on a Friday night. Might have bacon again.
Bacon, sour dough bread and a couple Ham’s tallboys. Friday night is looking up!
Last Christmas, the lovely Mrs azlib bought me a sourdough class as a gift, and I’ve been keeping the house in sourdough pretty regular since then. I made sourdough almond biscotti today and tomorrow morning’s coffee will be wonderful.
One of my fondest memories was me and Dad at deer camp many years ago. Very cold outside with snow on the ground. Thankfully not much wind. We cooked giant ribeyes on a grate over our camp fire. We had sour dough bread as a side. I can still taste it. We finished the evening sipping on some Weller’s Bourbon before heading to our tent.
Where Casy iz?
He was around a bit in the beginning but faded away. I for one miss his commentary on all sorts of things.
saw th3 sign and immediately thought ‘Spud Drive-In’ in Driggs……….
I’m dealing with a disaster. Hoping to get a handle on it. I knew this day would come but I’d hoped it wouldn’t, and now it has.
On top of that our cat Tawny Autumn passed on Mon. She was 16. Sad to say, and I hate myself for saying it, it almost seems like a relief. In her downward slide over the past several months it has been very taxing and my wife has been an absolute hero throughout. Tawny was never in pain and was attentive but in the last few days she just wanted to sleep.
So we’re down to just one cat now, Sparkle, and no dogs and that hasn’t happened since 1987, but even back then we had a dog too. And a kid. Right now it’s just me, my wife, and Sparkle. Kind of a weerd feeling with no animals running around.
This pik is my wife holding Tawny Autumn out on the north deck when she was a baby gurl in 2010 and she’s seeing snowflakes for the first time.
Yes, she and her sister Caramel were Torties.
Now, back to my disaster….
May your heart begin to heal and sweet memories bring peace.
Condolences, my friend.
Aw man – sorry to hear that. We’ve lost a couple – not to old age – and it affects you. I can’t imagine living without a cat or two or 5 or 6 hanging around.
Sorry to hear you’re dealing with disaster and the loss of another pet. Never easy, losing our 4 legged friends.
My sincere condolences Ghost.
No matter if it barks, purrs, or whinnies, it is never easy.
Our Pekingese got ill some months back. Quit eating, drinking and just laid around. He is quite old. Gave him some sort of marijuana medication and he slept for a few days then came out of it. It really had me choked up thinking he was going to pass. I had no idea it would affect me so.
Long way of saying that I feel for your loss.
Thanks folks. Today we go to Columbus to pick up Tawny Autumn at “Faithful Friends In Passing”. We’ll take the slow backwoods drive home. It will be the same route we took 16 years ago when we got Tawny Autumn and her sister Caramel at a shelter in Rushville. She’s coming home, again.
2 weeks ago we paid $4k to have 2 very large Norfolk Island pine trees removed from our property. NIP’s are cool in that their branches are like spokes on a bike. They come out of the trunk at the same level all around the tree, at spaced locations all up the trunk. I had the sawyer cut me a dozen pieces of the trunk right where the spokes emerge. Later today I will take those pieces into the shop and paint the exposed surfaces with white latex paint to control the drying process, then sit them outside under the overhang to season until late fall.
Where the 5 or 6 branches intersect the trunk of the tree creates a stunning display of “starfire” when exposed by the lathe chisels.
I will use 2 of those spoked pieces to turn urns on my lathe for Tawny Autumn and Caramel’s ashes.
There is an old song by Rossington Collins, remnants of Lynyrd Skynyrd after the crash. Song is called Pine Box. I will probably make one for our Pekingese some day, but am not planning for it.
