Sometimes I Still Feel Like A Rowdy 20 Year Old

The New American Digest Posted on January 4, 2025 by DTJanuary 4, 2025

... and it's Saturday.

I could feel like heading into a hard-rock bar with $1 cover, cheap beer, and girls feeling the same way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQVei5C2N4E

Then realize my body - and mind - couldn't handle it anymore.

Nor could I probably handle being around 20yos that like $1 cover bars with cheap beer.
Or 20yo girls that feel the same way.

Sigh ... but I still sometimes enjoy the music.

In my day and place at the time, that like as not often meant Ted Nugent practicing feedback.
Ya get what ya pay for ...

Here We Continue On

The New American Digest Posted on January 2, 2025 by DTJanuary 2, 2025

I was going to put up something cheery and uplifting today.

Then yesterday happened.

2025 to 2024: "Hold my beer!"

Sigh ...

Maybe later.

Thoughts On New Year Day

The New American Digest Posted on January 1, 2025 by DTJanuary 1, 2025

A month from now, Gerard's work will be gone forever. Enjoy the Archives while you may.
And bless Neo for her work in keeping his spirit and works alive as long as she did.
I still miss Ol' Remus' works; soon American Digest goes on the list as well.

Damn! Can't get through a celebration without some crazy going crazy. Not going to be able to say anything even close to pleasant or family-friendly other than may God rest the souls of those wanting nothing more than to celebrate in NO.

We hadn't had any significant snow since last winter. A light dusting a month or so ago but that was gone shortly after falling. Set a new record for latest snowfall. But it started last night just past midnight and is still coming down as I write this. Weather site says it will continue until tomorrow morning.

May you all have a happy 2025 and may America rise once again from the flames of "them".

New Year: A Dialogue

The New American Digest Posted on January 1, 2025 by DTDecember 31, 2024

Something different than Auld Lang Syne
Found in what must have been my great-grandmother's belongings.

by Ella Wheeler Wilcox circa 1909

Mortal:
"The night is cold, the hour is late, the world is bleak and drear;
Who is it knocking at my door?
"

The New Year:
"I am Good Cheer."

Mortal:
"Your voice is strange; I know you not; in shadows dark I grope.
What seek you here?
"

The New Year:
"Friend, let me in; my name is Hope."

Mortal:
"And mine is Failure; you but mock the life you seek to bless. Pass on."

The New Year:
"Nay, open wide the door; I am Success."

Mortal:
"But I am ill and spent with pain; too late has come your wealth. I cannot use it."

The New Year:
"Listen, friend; I am Good Health."

Mortal:
"Now, wide I fling my door. Come in, and your fair statements prove."

The New Year:
"But you must open, too, your heart, for I am Love."

Rules

Gerard Van der Leun
12/26/45 - 1/27/23

Gerard's Last Post
(posthumous): Feb 4, 2023
"So Long. See You All a Little Further Down the Road"

When my body won’t hold me anymore
And it finally lets me free
Where will I go?
Will the trade winds take me south through Georgia grain?
Or tropical rain?
Or snow from the heavens?
Will I join with the ocean blue?
Or run into a savior true?
And shake hands laughing
And walk through the night, straight to the light
Holding the love I’ve known in my life
And no hard feelings

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man,
play a song for me
I'm not sleepy
and there ain't no place I'm goin' to

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man,
play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning,
I'll come followin' you

Take me for a trip upon
your magic swirling ship
All my senses have been stripped
And my hands can't feel to grip
And my toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin'

I'm ready to go anywhere,
I'm ready for to fade
Unto my own parade
Cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it

Men who saw night coming down about them could somehow act as if they stood at the edge of dawn.

From Gerard's site. The picture always caught my eye.
