Great Headlines Around The World
===========================

“Too much light at night disturbs great tits when breeding”

—————————————————————————

Well now, I guess I should have turned the lights off!

One of my favorite past times is observing them up close and personal. As personal as they will allow, that is. Most are not very gratuitous. “Don’t hand me no lines And keep your hands to yourself”

Thanks for the beautiful photo of the Titmouse, Ghost, one of my favorite birds. Also for the Swiss website as I am a native Swiss.

Nothing says nature walk like a manmade, uncappable well spewing water hither and thither.

Does it run continuously, spouting water as shown in the pictures? That would be remarkable, so much water in the desert. From online maps, zooming in, the area immediately around the geyser appears green. So even though the water is hot and full of minerals, plant life thrives.

It flows continuously at around 200F. It’s on the edge of Black Rock desert which is a huge playa in a geothermal region. Dry as it is (usually) on the surface, the water level is relatively close to the surface. When wet, the whole area turns into “gumbo mud”. Good way to get stuck – ask me how I know. 🙂 I heard Burning Man took place when wet a few years ago. Not good.

There is high-temperature algae of various colors in the water, similar as in the hot springs of Yellowstone. There’s been a lot of development in the area since the last time I was there. A lot of commercials are filmed there.
