Dropping Like Flies They Are
Golden Earring co-founder George Kooymans died earlier today at age 77 of complications from ALS.
1973’s “Radar Love” was by far the Golden Earring’s most well-known composition but I first heard of them with a 19-minute cover of “8 Miles High” in 1969.
Less well known is “The Devil Made Me Do It” (1982).

““The Devil Made Me Do It“ is everyones excuse. Honor, character and integrity left a long time ago here in America.
I heard Hulk Hogan punched his last time card too.
Got a little story about Golden Earring in 1974 I’ll put out later.
Funny, they and Ozzy pushed me in 2 diff directions in a 2 year span and I almost didn’t survive either one.
And let’s no forget that happy steppin’ music from 100,000 grocery stores and elevators nationwide.

Ah yes Mangione. In 1970 whatever, my husband’s band added horns to their mix. DH added flugelhorn. We had a running comment between us, when something good and unexpected happened we’d look at each other and say “thank the Lord Freddy’s walkin'”. Although, Chuck played keyboards on that one not flugelhorn.
