Ghost, I think I’m older and (if this is even possible) probably crankier than you are. I have enjoyed your comments across the various sites I visit daily, for many years. Thanks for this one. I know it is a repost, but I enjoyed it again.

Thanks graydog and if you’re crankier than me we’d get along just fine!

What with the controversial subjects of dogs, cats, guitars, construction, carpentry, self-reliance…I expect we would, Ghost! Pity that we are separated by some insurmountable distance. I’m confident that I would enjoy your occasional opinionated company over a beer or two.

The town were I grew up had about 600 people. Two grocery stores, A Studebaker dealer, Oliver tractor dealer, lumber yard, 2 taverns, a pharmacy, 4 gas stations and 2 grain elevators and two restaurants. Only 8 miles from the county seat, so you can guess how that went. Now with more than double the population we still have the grocery store, now run by Sikhs, who took over from the Koreans, a brand new dollar general and a Mexican restaurant with bar. Use to be a country store at every little crossroads community. There were 5 in a 10 mile circle from my place. There is one left on the State highway, but it was closed for quite a while.
