Rumors: GSA/OMB Firings On Deck
[Comments enabled]There is some chatter on this, so its not a complete rumor, but close.
Typically during a government shutdown all the people who get laid off are furloughed and the time is basically a paid vacation because when the shutdown ends in every instance they’ve been paid for the time they didn’t work.
So if you’re a government employee you want these because you get paid but did nothing for the money! What a nice scheme for you (and being bent over the table if you’re a taxpayer.)
Not this time.  The GSA and OMB has been told to prepare for terminations — effectively, mass layoffs if there is a shutdown via RIFs, which would be permanent and effective on the date of the shutdown.
You would get severance but your job is gone and will not be there when the shutdown ends.
Let’s see how Schumer and Jeffries like that idea.
Political theater eh? Uh, if this proves up not this time and incidentally the Supremes have repeatedly said in recent months Trump can fire people, so trying to sue might work and might not — but do you wish to gamble with your capacity to make the mortgage payment?
