Earlier this month while hunting on Blue Mountain in CO, I kept having humming birds come to me, hover, watching me, then leave. It was my bright orange safety vest, I suspect.

My heart is largely open to my wife and children, but not completely. I will not be vulnerable to anyone. Fears, doubts and uncertainties for myself are reserved for me and God discussions. My good Dad gave up nothing. He was the bullet proof patriarch, and now am I. I have the same expectation for my son.

That switched gears quickly. Hummingbirds. Blue whales. The tracks of our tears across our hearts, and others; some tracks left by others. I may have inferred that last. But I’ve felt the footsteps. Stomping, some were. I learned the hard way to keep most of that to myself. Vulnerability, to expand on Snakepit, is highly over-rated, in my experience.

I don’t think anyone wants to be vulnerable because of the potential hurt
that can result. But…I also think that just because we’re human it is almost
impossible to not be sometimes…once in a while.
