A sample of some obscure – and some maybe not obscure – tunes from my strange and off-the-wall collection.

Both cuts were B sides; both cuts ranked high on the Billboard charts.

Bonus cut - Woodstock version of "Want To Take You Higher"

Woodstock: "What we would like to do ... is sing a song together ..."

" "I Want to Take You Higher" is not a message song; instead, it is simply dedicated to music and the feeling one gets from music."
The performance at Woodstock - about 3AM - was considered one of the best of the festival.

"Everybody Is A Star" wasn't released on an LP until a Greatest Hits compilation was released.

Sly & The Family Stone put on a good show - when they decided to show up, something not always certain.

It Would Be Worth It

just to stop California from thinking they can tell the rest of us what to do and how to live.

Navin Grewsom: "Californians pay the bills for the federal government. We pay over $80 BILLION more in taxes than we get back. Maybe it’s time to cut that off, @realDonaldTrump."

[then why are you running such huge deficits?]

Cut them off. Let them keep their $80B. The rest of us already need permission to enter - the state has "customs" stations at the border; make those work both ways.

Let them get it shoved in their faces they're not as independent of us as they'd like to believe; that they need the rest of us for such things as electricity and fuel and water.

The expression "Don't Californicate xxxx" didn't come about out of nowhere - look what happened to Oregon.

Let's hear it for the great state of Jefferson ...

The Old Gazebo…

Winter. Late afternoon.
The beach is empty. The air is grey-blue.
The ocean is grey-silver, scattered with foamy white waves.

At the high-tide mark is a long wooden, railed walkway leading to
an old gazebo perched on top of the highest dune.
Inside the gazebo is a picnic table with benches.

Under the table is a pair of small deck shoes.
Between the shoes is an empty styrofoam coffee cup.

The most interesting thing is on the table. An open book.
The pages on the left are flapping lightly with the breeze.
The pages on the right are clipped together by a pen.
They struggle to move with the wind..

On that first page on the right is a single handwritten line.
In the most delicate and precise penmanship. It says...


"I am going home."

Time For Another “Summer Of Love”?

Judging from what I hear about the goings-on in LA and NYC ... plus DC and Portland ... and perhaps other places not worthy of news reporting Minneapolis? Seattle?, I wonder if the time is coming for at least another time of Peaceful Protesting by the left.

More expansive this time, more dedication to the cause ... more bullets flying.

I'm not convinced I like either side, but I am not fond of the left ("not fond" - one way to put it) and I don't trust the right ... but if forced, I have to stick with the right ... and keep an eye on my 6.

Anyone else smell at least limited martial law?

Just keep in mind: the alternative was Harris.

Life On The DT Homestead

One of Mrs DT's hobbies is gardening. It never much appealed to me although my parents once had "award-winning" gardens and four helpers. That could be when I lost my interest ... but then I had two grandfathers that were raised on farms - and both got out as soon as they were old enough to leave home. So maybe I inherited my disinterest.

But I'm happy enough to help "document" her efforts.

I'd miss the me

Happystances less than fleeting.
Does make no sense
in trading tents.
Isall discombobulation.
Keep what you've got
and covet not
another's home play station.

Sunrise Over Lake Huron

From the eastern shore of northern Michigan - north of Oscoda - the lake is about 100 miles across at this point. Not intentionally, but on the eastern shore of the lake at this point is the beach where I spent most of my youthful summers ... and learned that "warm" water (as I was often informed that it was - my mother lied to me) in the northern Great Lakes is good drinking temperature.

Back before Global Warming, we'd drive out on the ice a bit south of here; if it was thick enough to stymie Coast Guard ice-breakers, it was certainly safe for cars. At least so far as our feeble minds were capable of thinking at that age. Made it 20 miles out one time.

We'd do a lot of foolish things like that.

God was watching over us ...
