Christmas Carol Time #10
A selection of some of my favorite Christmas carols. A daily event through Christmas.
Today’s selection: Moody Blues – “What Child Is This?” – 1580/1865/1994
The tune is Greensleeves with lyrics written in 1865 but not published until 1871. The tune Greensleeves was registered in 1580 in London. Although often credited to King Henry VIII, he had died before the tune was registered.
The Moody Blues released this version in 1994.

Merry Christmas DT. The Moodies are my favorite band, so hearing this was lovely. More so because it answered a question my SiL asked at our traditional waffles, bacon and sausage Christmas brunch. He couldn’t remember the hymn that used the Green sleeves tune. Now, I should have but was not quite fully awake after going to bed very late getting things ready for brunch, setting the table with my lace table cloth and “the good china and silverware”. And…making the raised yeast batter for the waffles. Then in the morning standing at the waffle iron for what always seems like an hour. So, as I said I couldn’t come up with the song. Imagine my surprise when I sat down after clean up and setting the table again for dinner to read AD and there was the answer to the question. Thank you and Merry Christmas to us all.
