Amazing colors. They seem new-worldly. It must hop sideways, another sign of the times.
Perhaps it had a Close Encounter of the Farm Machinery Kind
I’ve seen literally thousands of them in the bin of a Gleaner ‘E’ after going thru the header, threshing cylinder, separator screens, clean-grain elevator and acting as if it was just a Grasshopper Roller Coaster ride.

I believe that is a california mantis.
I just looked up that grasshopper.
Its real name is Rainbow Grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor) …. uses its multiple colors to appear toxic to its predators.
They dont fly and they love alfalfa.
We always called them the CA mantis.
