Potentially livable, and it has a porch, though north facing. It’s not a big ordeal to put another porch on the south side and catch that sun.

I’m guessing that building is about 30′ wide across the front where the porch is, and about 20′ deep. So, about 600 square feet. And, I’m guessing there is enough height to get 4 floors in it, in the building proper, then 1 more floor with a tall ceiling, way up at the top. I’m estimating overall building height to the peak of the topmost roof at about 50 feet.

That would be quite a long distance view all the way around, from that top floor. Perfect for a sheen gun nest and a spotters scope.

5 floors would require quite a few stairs and I think these ol’ paratroopers yeggz is up to it, so a minimalist elevator would be required – with back up battery pack.

Looks like electricity is available, and possibly wi-fi. If no wi-fi, then Starlink it is. A well and a septic would be necessary too. Maybe dig a 2 acre pond, to draw water from, assuming an underground stream can be found. Berm the pond dirt somewhere for a shooting range backdrop and as a means of channeling ne’er do wells into specific kill channels.

I wonder what it would cost to truck in some 60′ tall mature hardwood trees, maples and oaks and hickory’s? Be nice to have a few dozen of them close by to provide some shade and visual interest, and a guide for additional landscaping.

Yeah, with a mil or 3 a person with a creative, opportunistic perspective could establish a life haven right there in that picture, wherever it is.

It’s an interesting intellectual exercise, but just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

There’s still one in operation 15 miles south of me, still on the railroad. I still have 1800 bushels of oats from last years crop there.

My ignorance. I thought the business model was that the farmer sold the crop to the elevator. Do you pay rent for storage?

That is the model but no one wants to cayuse oats at a fair price so we are paying storage and my brother goes and gets 3 or 4 bulk and uses them to make feed with his Chinese pellet mill.

There were close to 4000 of these grain elevators in Saskatchewan when I was in school half a century ago. Each farmer could easily get there and back to one of them in a one day trip. Western skyscrapers that dotted the rural landscape. A fellow named Tim Lockhart is documenting them in photographs. There is something beautiful and deeply nostalgic about them. I was obsessed with drawing them when I was a kid.

Oh boy. Here I go again barging in a great chat and beautiful read about another subject altogether. However, I think I have a gift for you folks.

Do you remember in the old days when a government agency made a mess of things? Do you remember we used to laught and say just another SNAFU? Well, I got one for you today.
In Billings Montana at the dog pound they have a machine to cremate dog bodies. HOWEVER, the FBI decided to use that machine to burn some of the fentanyl it has been capturing out there on the highway. You can only imagine at what a confusion ensued. Here is the link:
