WoW.
Could he lay the lines or what?

Holy kow, using the hell out of words, making them do what few can, and forcing readers to consider that which is normally elusive. Gerard was a master, and though time has elapsed, passages such as this are stark reminders of the efforts of his task, now gone. But never forgotten long.

I bought his book last year, I bought his next book yesterday, and I have his entire website. For posterity, for occasional browsing. I no longer have his emails, which, like his articles, were written so as to be digested slowly, and again, each word revealing more than initially meets the eye.

I’m glad I knew him.

Well said, Ghost. We are blessed to have people
who have saved his writing and even more, to have known him.

jd, to be clear. I never actually knew Gerard in person.
I was referencing the emails he and I had exchanged.
We lived 2000 miles apart.

Thinking about it now, can anyone say they “knew” someone?
There can be different levels of knowing, but never completely.

I remember Rev Riley saying one time during a sermon (I don’t remember the entire subject of the sermon) that there were things about him that his kids didn’t know. There were things about him that his wife didn’t know. But there was nothing about him that Jesus didn’t know. I was maybe 12 when he said that and I’ve remembered it ever since, going on 60 years later.

I wrote a thing about Rev Riley some 8 years ago and Gerard published it.

Exactly right Jean.
It’s his site and he should run it as he sees fit.
He’s no Gerard and no one ever will be.
But that’s not the point, at this point.
We’re all individuals and everybody gets to take it or leave it.
I prefer to take it, for now.
If that changes I won’t piss and bitch, I’ll just continue down my path.

I still like to think of it as “our” site with me volunteering to run it. Doesn’t cost me anything financially; it’s lumped in with other sites I support. Time is not a big deal; I more or less live on a computer for one thing or another (including CAD work for building design – at a much smaller scale than 1:1 though). Sometimes I’ll get wordy; sometimes you just get a picture for inspiration. The comments is what makes this site anyway.

You and Jean are significant co-contributors – I wouldn’t mind if others submitted postings as well.
But I thank you all for your support. Coming up on a year now; I’ll have more to say then.

It’s good to have a place “to land”.

As in Computer Aided Design; I use FreeCAD and Blender.
Suitable for my work but my profession lies elsewhere.

I think you should grace us with a list of all your degrees and certifications and professions, past and present.
Would be fascinating to know that about you.

Mere pieces of paper best suited for covering holes in the wall. Not worth listing.
