The Old Gazebo…
posted by Jean Dec 22, 2006
Winter. Late afternoon.
The beach is empty. The air is grey-blue.
The ocean is grey-silver, scattered with foamy white waves.
At the high-tide mark is a long wooden, railed walkway leading to
an old gazebo perched on top of the highest dune.
Inside the gazebo is a picnic table with benches.
Under the table is a pair of small deck shoes.
Between the shoes is an empty styrofoam coffee cup.
On that first page on the right is a single handwritten line.
In the most delicate and precise penmanship. It says…
The most interesting thing is on the table. An open book.
The pages on the left are flapping lightly with the breeze.
The pages on the right are clipped together by a pen.
They struggle to move with the wind..
“I am going home.”

winter – late afternoon

I’ve seen this before, and I believe I said I liked it.
However, it seems some of the lines are out of order.
These 2 lines:
“On that first page on the right is a single handwritten line.
In the most delicate and precise penmanship. It says…”
Should be after this line:
“They struggle to move with the wind..”
And then close with this line:
“I am going home.”
Am I right, or did I get it all wrong?
Man, that is some white sand!
I am all good with the summer coming. By the time I get tired of it, Fall will be here. We have had consistent rain and everything around here is nice and green. El Dorado Lake is full which is a resevoir for many towns around here. My small garden is producing nice hot wax peppers which are wonderful to put on the grill whole. Got some cherry tomatoes. About seven volunteer mystery chilis are starting to flower and I will find out what they actually are soon. The volunteer redbud in the middle of a few chilis is growing and I am looking for a spot to transfer it this Fall.
Socialists are taking over NY. Communism and socialism has worked so well around the world so we know how this will turn out. Maybe time to start buying more ammo. Tooled up to reload a gob of .38spl.
